A Perfect Description of River Road Campgrounds

A Perfect Description of River Road Campgrounds

There are 21,000 acres of woods, swamps as well as the River Road Campground in the Lake George State Forest.

Year-round camping is available at the campgrounds, where you may engage in a number of outdoor pursuits like hiking, bird watching, and fishing. Alligators and black bears can be seen in the area, so use caution when you're out and about.

The St. Johns River is nearby, and the area is encircled by more than three miles of woodland. At River Road Campground, tent camping is the only allowed type of camping.

There are flushing toilets in the restrooms, but no modern restrooms. Every campground has a grill, picnic table, and fire ring. On-site amenities include portalets and non-potable water.

Fishing in the St. Johns River is extremely popular among visitors to the River Road Campground. River fishing and pier fishing are both options for guests. Many visitors like to clean and cook the fish in their campsites.

Walking and horseback riding trails are plentiful near the campgrounds. These hiking trails give guests access to the wilderness of the state of Florida.

Dogs are allowed on the nearby trails and at the campsite. Although it's unclear if leashes are necessary for dogs, it's advisable to keep your dog on a leash for safety when in campgrounds and the surrounding regions.

Bears and other wild animals live in the forests, and snakes and alligators can be found in swamp areas. To keep bears out of your camping location, use bear boxes.

Due to the number of beautiful species that are difficult to see in other parts of the nation, bird watching is quite popular in the area.

While hunting is allowed in the area, make sure to take precautions when at the campgrounds. It is very easy for humans and dogs to be mistaken for wildlife from afar.

River Road Campgrounds Facilities

With 21 spacious and modern campsites (15 in the River Road Loop and six in the Project Point Loop) and one large day-use group picnic shelter, River Road Campground has enough room for the family.

A boat ramp into the river and a playground are also provided. There are RV dealers and truck dealers around, which will make it easy for you to hire them in order to ease movement to your camp spot.

River Road Campgrounds Natural Features

As part of a huge effort to manage flooding and use the Fourche LaFave River's water resources, Nimrod Dam was finished in 1942.

Even though the dam project's original goal did not include recreation, the lake and the 21,000 acres of natural land around it have developed into an outdoor enthusiasts' paradise.

River Road Campgrounds Recreation

River Road Campgrounds Recreation

One of the most appreciated activities in the lake is fishing, where there are plenty of opportunities to catch bream, largemouth bass, catfish, and crappie.

With eleven boat ramps strategically placed around the lake, boating, water skiing, and tubing are all very popular activities.

However, regions west of Carden Point are too dangerous for skiing and tubing, thus these activities are limited to the eastward direction toward the dam.

White-tailed deer, eastern wild turkey, bobwhite quail, squirrel, rabbit, fox, mink, black bear, dove, and waterfowl are among the animals that campers are likely to see.

In the forest around the lake, seasonal hunting is also allowed, with the exception of places that are close to or within leisure areas.
