Having breaks from work and personal fits may seem difficult, but it's really crucial. It helps you recharge and feel better, so you can handle life more easily. There are lots of ways to take a break, but spending a night in a tent close to nature is special.
It's not just relaxing, it's good for your health. We'll guide you on how to start living in a tent – what you need, what kind of tent to choose, where to go, and more.
What Does it Mean to Camp in a Tent?
Camping in a tent in small or large groups is a simple and fun way to take a break. It's not hard, and you can do it almost anywhere you can set up a summer tent, even in high winds. Whether you're hiking or camping at the beach, there are lots of chances to camp in a tent.
And camping is good for your health too! You get Vitamin D from the sun, enjoy fresh air (which brings happiness), and have chances to exercise, play in heavy rain, meditate, and be with your loved ones.
Types of Camping Tents?
When you go camping, think of your tent like a lovely, comfy home! It's handy for picnics, barbecues, festivals, or a day at the beach.
Tents come in different sizes: small ones like bivy sacks or big ones like cabin tents for lots of people. In the past, tents were thick canvas, but now they can be made from a lot of materials, affecting their weight and strength. Some tents are better for bad weather.
Modern tents have cool features like big entrances, electric hookups, places to hang your stuff, pockets, separate rooms, and straight-up walls for more space. With many types of tents, you can find the perfect one for your plans.

10 Best Tents for Camping in Any Weather
We know most people now love camping, are you one of them? Well, if you love camping, we have gathered very nice tents you can use for camping.
1. The North Face Wawona 6 ($500)
The camping market from The North Face can be a bit weird, but their tents stand out as a winner. Recently updated, the major changes include a shift to a hybrid double-wall construction (replacing the less breathable single-wall design in the past set) and a revamped pole type to make it easier to arrange.
Available in four- and six capacities for people, the tunnel-like design, similar to REI’s Wonderland 6, gives off a cute interior space with about 3 more square feet of ground space and an extra two inches of peak height compared to the REI model—all at a more budget-friendly price, around $100 less.
The spacious front vestibule (44.7 square ft.) is one of the best features, and it plays the role of an added seating area, a feature you'd have to purchase separately with the Wonderland's Mud Room add-on ($125). Overall, the Wawona impresses with its livable design and affordable value.
However, the Wawona arrangement was laborious and time-consuming, even with the revised pole makeup. Specifically, the vestibule needs to be tightened out in order to stand erect, and it takes some time to get the proper tension and security with the unusual pole style.
Positives: Compared to a single-wall tent like the Big Agnes Dog House (not mentioned here), the hybrid double-wall brand offers new ventilation and cannot hold moisture in humid or wet weather. A few of minor complaints are that the all-mesh door may allow heat to escape and create drafts in cold weather, and the rain fly does not completely cover the lower part of the tent (although it is still waterproof).
2. Copper Spur HV UL2 Bikepack
For 2021, Big Agnes made some major updates to the entire Bikepack collection. Notably, there are now three new pole lines that came with the Bikepack Tent Series: the Fly Creek (UL1 and UL2), known for being the lightest and most minimal; the Copper Spur (UL1, UL2, and UL3), considered the fully-featured Cadillac tent among the other 3, which makes it the most expensive); and the new Tiger Wall Tent Bikepack, the UL2 & UL3, which we will delve into shortly.
Coming later in November, the new 2021 Copper Spur Bikepack tents underwent many adjustments. Additionally, there's now a three-person option, the all-new Copper Spur HV UL3 Bikepack. We explored the UL1 model, benefiting from the same new style as the entire lineup. Here are the details and the first impressions I got after using it for a few nights.
The nicest feature of the Copper Spur is its double "Y" pole design, making it the only freestanding tent in the Bikepack series, a feature many bike travelers value. It's also the most spacious for the same reason. In essence, the new Tent Big Agnes Copper Spur Tent, HV UL1 Bikepack, is the same as the original type, which earned a spot in our Gear of the Year Awards.
The changes are in the colors used. The 2021 models opt for a more subdued look, replacing the orange tent body. They also show a new "chainring" Big Agnes logo on the tent and rainfly. Additionally, Big Agnes has made a lot of changes and details. Here are some specifics on each.
Features
- It features a 12" Shortstik Poleset, perfect for packing onto handlebars, panniers, or saddlebags and saving space in bags.
- Simplified setup with a unique tent corner construction and TipLok Tent Buckle™ that serves 3 functions: holding the pole-tip capture, rainfly attachment, tensioner, and a stake-out loop.
- Comes with a robust compression stuff-sack and daisy-chain webbing system for a lot of bike-frame attachment configurations.
- Uses proprietary ultralight nylon double rip-stop mixed denier fabric, which gives extra strength for tear and puncture resistance without adding weight.
- Smooth-closing, dual-zipper door with easy-grip pulls on two doors and two awning-style vestibules (UL2/3) equipped with storm flaps on the vestibule zippers.
- Easy entry with a dual-zipper door and quick reach-through access using only one zipper; unzipped door easily stows with Quick Stash door-keeper on tent body door.
- Stash oversized gear in the 3D shelf, utilizing dead space above your feet, or securely store a helmet on top of the tent body with elastic webbing. Use daisy-chain loops on the outside to dry your wet clothes and other gear.
- Maximized storage options with an oversized ceiling pocket and multiple interior loops for gear lofts, accessories, and mtnGLO® Tent & Camp Lights.
- Clean earbud-cord routing from phones or other devices through media pockets located above the sleeping area.
- Dry, dirt-free changing and gear storage with an extended footprint creating a vestibule floor (sold separately).
- Increased airflow and reduced condensation through a fly vent with a low vent feature on the outside doors for more ventilation while still giving a good cover.
- Easy to pitch at any time of day with reflective guylines, color-coded webbing on tent corners, extra stability with Velcro® tabs connecting the fly to the pole structure, and ready to place with already cut guylines and strong tensioners that are attached.
- Includes a lighter and even stronger Dirt Dagger Stakes, which is a UL Tent with patent-pending I-Beam aluminum construction.
3. Nemo Aurora Highrise 6P
Nemo, a New Hampshire-based company, introduced the Aurora collection a few years ago, entering the competition with crossover options like the Marmot Tungsten and Mountain Hardwear Mineral King. The latest Highrise version is targeting the premium and luxurious segment of the market.
It features a standing-height interior, steep sidewalls, and a massive footprint comparable to competitors like the highly-rated Wawona and REI Wonderland. True to Nemo's reputation, the Aurora Highrise is thoughtfully designed with windows on each side for ventilation while remaining protected from rain when open.
It includes two big doors and a hallway. This rainfly can be arranged as a shade from sun and rain, and the poles are sold separately with high-quality materials, including sturdy aluminum poles and a thick 150-denier floor with a fun checkered pattern.
After extensive testing in the Pacific Northwest, we were thoroughly impressed with the Aurora. Setting up the tent is surprisingly fast and intuitive, taking around 5 minutes with two people and easily manageable solo. All components feel durable and instill confidence.
The large, oval-shaped main door makes entry and exit effortless, although we wish the second door had the same design (it's about half the size). The dome shape does sacrifice some headroom at the sides, and REI's tunnel-like Wonderland excels in maximizing peak height. Additionally, you can get more vestibule space for larger items with the Wonderland.
Features:
- The distinctive frame design creates steep walls, offering ample interior volume and standing height throughout.
- Two doors and vestibules with Gatekeeper™ door clips make entry easy and provide ample storage for the family.
- Durable fabrics and aluminum poles ensure a lifetime of family adventures.
- The unique and playful printed floor fabric adds character and brings smiles.
- Large doors and side windows with mesh and integrated rain cover offer better views and excellent air ventilation.
- The intuitive tent design ensures a quick and easy setup.
- Nightlight Pockets™ transform your headlamp into a tent lantern, removing blue light and casting an even glow.
- An oversized duffel storage bag simplifies packing.
- Environmentally and people-friendly, with no restricted chemical substances or added chemicals for flame resistance, meeting CGSB-182.1 requirements.
4. REI Co-op Skyward 4
The Skyward offers excellent value, considering the high quality of its poles and materials. Comparable tents in the market are frequently $50-$100 more expensive.
While you could opt for a cheaper, low-quality tent, those made with inexpensive materials may only endure for one summer as they are prone to breaking. Based on our experience, it's advisable to invest a bit more in a durable tent like the Skyward, ensuring reliability for years to come.
The Skyward is a self-supporting tent that is easy and uncomplicated to set up. The setup process is so user-friendly that we didn't even require the guide the first time we pitched the tent.
We appreciate that the instructions are sewn into the bag, ensuring they're always within reach if needed. What sets the Skyward apart is its separate roof assembly. You insert crossed poles into sleeves at the top initially, then elevate the structure with four vertical poles at the corners.
This design makes it convenient for one person to set up. Breaking down the Skyward is also a quick process, and it neatly fits back into the stuff sack, whether you choose to roll or stuff it.
Features:
- Upright walls and a rectangular floor space that boosts the living space, allowing you to change clothes standing up straight.
- The stable, sturdy, freestanding design separates the roof assembly from leg poles, making setup easier. A large D-shaped door with a low sill ensures easy entry and exit.
- The awning over the door provides a dry, drip-free entry, even with the vestibule door open. Bugproof mesh ceiling panels enhance ventilation and offer sky views in good weather.
- The waterproof, cap-style fly covers mesh ceiling panels, providing rain protection while allowing excellent ventilation. The twin-stake vestibule offers additional livable space and protected gear storage.
- Multiple pockets and gear loops for lights offer convenient storage.
- The package includes a heavy-duty carry-on bag, with separate sacks for poles, guylines, and stakes, ten stakes, four reflective guylines with tighteners, and a pole-repair sleeve.
- The tent is made using solution-dyed mesh to reduce water and energy use in manufacturing.
5. Mountain Hardwear Nimbus UL 1 Tent
This can be a two-person tents, and is constructed with 100% nylon, featuring a 30D ripstop floor that extends a few inches on the sides. Its body is made of 15D Silnylon white material, complemented by a 15D Mesh nylon.
The fly of the tent is crafted from 20D Silnylon and incorporates a dual-zipper, single-door design that aligns with the body. Mountain Hardwear strategically optimized strength where needed and minimized it where unnecessary, following a common approach in tent making.
With a footprint of 86 inches in length, the tent has a width of 38 inches at the head and 28 inches at the foot. The tent fly adds an extra vestibule space of 28 inches from the tent body, tapering to the corner of the head.
At a height of 38 inches from the ground to the highest point, there is ample room to sit up. For someone 5 feet 9.5 inches tall, like myself, there was plenty of extra space at both the foot and head of the tent.
However, taller individuals who move a lot at night may find themselves at the top or bottom of the tent. It's worth mentioning that the Nimbus UL1 bears a resemblance to the Big Agnes Fly Creek, with the main difference being a bit of additional head space on the Fly Creek.
Features:
- The 20-denier nylon rainfly is treated with silicone on both sides, enhancing waterproofing, strength, and durability while reducing weight.
- The nylon fly is produced without fabric dye, significantly decreasing water and chemical usage in the manufacturing process.

- The pre-bent pole design enhances headroom and interior space.
- All pole sections are pre-connected via hubs for straightforward setup and takedown.
- The unique G-hook canopy-to-pole attachment system reduces weight and improves compressibility.
- A front mesh door with dual sliders and a quick stash allows easy entry and exit.
- The front dry-entry vestibule with dual sliders provides storage space for gear.
- A 3/4 mesh canopy lets you stargaze, while the solid lower canopy helps keep dust out and blocks wind.
- Reinforced webbing corners reduce tent weight.
- High-quality aluminum DAC J-Stakes are included.
- The tent comes packaged in two separate stuff sacks—one for the tent body and fly and another for the poles—allowing easy division for efficient packing.
- This tent is free of flame-retardant chemicals and may not adhere to CPAI-84 standards.

6. Mountain Hardwear Nimbus
The tent is the perfect tent and is entirely made of nylon, featuring a 30D ripstop floor that extends a few inches sideways, a Silnylon 15D white body, and a Mesh 15D nylon.
The tent's fly is crafted from 20D Silnylon and includes a dual-zipper, single-door design that complements the body. Mountain Hardwear strategically reinforced areas where strength was crucial and minimized it where unnecessary. This approach is commonly employed in tent manufacturing.
This great tent measures 86 inches (218 cm) in length, with a 38-inch (96.5 cm) width at the head and a 28-inch (71 cm) width at the foot. The tent fly extends an additional vestibule space of 28 inches (71 cm) from the tent body, tapering to the corner of the head. Standing at 5 feet 9.5 inches (177 cm), I had ample room at both the foot and head of the tent.
The tent has enough room at height of 38 inches (96.5 cm) from the ground to the highest point, providing enough space to sit up. If you're a tall person who tends to move around a lot at night, you might find yourself at the top or bottom of the tent.
Notably, the Nimbus UL1 is easily mistaken for the Big Agnes Fly Creek, with the only real difference being a bit of extra headspace on the Fly Creek.

8. Sea to Summit Telos TR3 Tent
The entire pole set is interconnected – a nice way to prevent pole loss! This instant tents makes the process easy, aided by color-coded pole ends that match the inner tent connecting holes. The ridge pole, extending from entrance to entrance, ascends instead of its descends and it offers ample headroom in both the vestibule and inner tent.
All poles are constructed from ultra-strong and easy DAC NSL materials. The tub floor, mesh inner, and rainfly are all very light and easily packable. The tub floor boasts an HH that rates 2500mm, and the rainfly features a PeU (Polyether Polyurethane) coating, giving the fabric longevity by minimizing water absorption compared to PU.
The rainfly can be erected independently of the inner tent, transforming into a semi-open shelter. This transformation requires walking poles (or canoe paddles!), or one can purchase specific Hangout Mode folding poles separately.
This innovative style upgrades the tent's adaptability and gives enough rest for users, mostly in damp, windy, or summer conditions. In line with the normal features of tents of this design, the rainfly door is equipped with two-way zippers and a storm cover for zips to help from inclement weather.
The zipper extends towards the middle of the vestibule, creating a challenge in avoiding drips when opening and closing the tent from the interior. Personally, I would prefer the zipper to be located on the side. The tent's interior boasts only two storage pockets, with enough space for small items.
Notably, there are popper buttons adjacent to the pockets that allow the attachment of tent carry bags, using them as more storage pockets – a clever feature! Moreover, the ceiling is adorned with a lot of gear loops along the seams, facilitating the attachment of a separate gear loft, and it allows for the hanging of lanterns and clothes lines.
An impressive design element is a system employed to affix the poles to either the inner tent or the rainfly. The pole feet seamlessly slot into a hole in the clip hole to the inner tent or a little clip on the outer tent. As a bonus, the outer tent easily clips onto the inner tent's when both sections of the tent are erected simultaneously, ensuring a quick, easy flow.
Features:
- Elevating the tent's model, the Tension Ridge enhances head-and-shoulder space while creating higher doors for convenient entry and additional storage.
- The arrangement process is made effortless with a color-coded, ultra-strong, and light DAC NSL two-hub poleset and quick-connect pole feet.
- Crafted for durability and unique waterproof performance, premium materials like DAC poles, YKK zippers, 7-series aluminum work, and seam-taped PeU-coated rainfly are used.
- Rainfly transforms into a semi-open shelter with Hangout Mode, requiring either a pair of trekking poles or the Hangout Mode Pole Set.
- Featuring the FairShare storage system, the tent easily packs into three stuff sacks for load. Post-setup, the stuff sacks convert into gear storage pockets.
- Introducing the Lightbar: Attach a headlamp and place the tent pole storage to the apex for soft, even illumination.
- Opt for a dry plan and takedown by arranging the rainfly first.
- The package includes 8 Ground Control Light Tent Pegs.
- Four detachable guylines can be quickly attached to loops on each tent corner.
- For extended tent floor space, try to use a Sea to Summit footprint (sold separately).

This cabin-style tent showcases nearly vertical walls, maximizing internal space and headroom right up to the sides, with a peak height reaching 78 inches.
While its popup design differs slightly from smaller counterparts, it is easy to set up in under 90 seconds, providing a big frame for such a spacious tent. This tent has really good airflow because it has six mesh windows and two D-shaped doors with bug screens made of hard weave mesh.
Plus, if you remove the top cover, the main cabin's top is also mesh. This means, on super hot days, you can sleep with the roof off and all the windows and doors open without worrying about bugs bothering you.
